OB/GYN's see cases of pre-eclampsia often in their lives. Pre-eclampsia is a, "medical condition characterized by high blood pressure and significant amounts of protein in the urine of a pregnant woman." If this condition goes untreated, then a woman can develop seizures during pregnancy, also known as eclampsia. This can be life-threatening to the mother and the baby.
